El Segundo - Conversation with Chris from Los Angeles (pt II)
Show Notes

Chris and his wife became in charge of the children’s ministry in Los Angeles.   He was also a part of the church’s legal team.  He was also a teen ministry, singles ministry, and married ministry leader.  Chris talks to us about the red flags that he noticed while he was a leader in the church.  He began to realize how the church resembled corporate America in how it was run on the inside.  Although he stayed on for many years, these red flags presented themselves slowly over time.  When asked why Chris stayed, he talks about the notion of fear.  Although the membership at large was manged by fear, through Chris’ testimony, it seems that the leaders of the church were governed in the same way.  Chris describes the leadership of the church as being harsh and authorative and how this type of environment trickled down hill.  Chris talks about how his personal style of leadership was also harsh.  Chris talks about how there was an unfair workload imposed on the everyday members while he and other leaders lived in well-to-do areas.  Chris talks to us about the how people in leadership would request to live in posh neighborhoods at the monetary expense of the church and the general membership.
